Bird on ground

We received a call to the rescue line about an injured hawk in Rochester Indiana. When I arrived, the homeowner told me that the night before they saw the hawk in their neighbors yard but they thought perhaps it had some prey and that’s why it was acting a bit strange. The next morning, however,  they found the hawk in their yard and it appeared to have wing injury.  When I got there, the 1st year hawk was alert and standing underneath a laundry basket and I was able to easily retrieve it.  I boxed it up and headed back to Fort Wayne. The bird was triaged and unfortunately, it had an injury to its left wing that was non repairable and in addition it was severely emaciated.  So in all likelihood, this bird had been down for some time, perhaps a car strike?  we will never know.  Given the injuries, the bird was humanely euthanized.

How You Can Help

It's important to rescue, rehab, and share these birds with the community, and we thank our donors and volunteers for making it possible.
